Dear Parents,
Week at a Glance
This week in handwriting we are practicing writing the letter “o”. In language we are correcting sentences for punctuation and capitalization as well as working on alphabet skills. For memory we are learning the tenth commandment which reminds us not to be jealous of what others have. This week in religion we are learning about the Reformation as well as the story of God calling Samuel. Our math lessons are focusing on measurement including estimating and comparing the length of objects. We are beginning a new unit in reading and are reading informational text as well as identifying elements of poetry. In science we are learning about plant traits. In social studies we are reviewing our unit on community helpers.

Jackets
The weather is beginning to get chilly as we near the beginning of November. Please make sure you send your child to school with a jacket every day. Morning recess is often colder than the maximum temperature for the day. Additionally your student may bring a uniform sweater or Hope sweatshirt to wear in the classroom if they are cold throughout the day. When the temperature is below 50 degrees students must have an extra layer to help them stay warm.
Library Books
Please make sure your child is returning their school library book back to school by Tuesday of each week.

Hope will celebrate our veterans on November 11th. This program is for veterans only. Parents will be able to see students perform at Christmas programs soon.
Early Dismissal
Hope will have early dismissal on November 6th. Extended care will be available. First grade early dismissal time is 11:30 am.

Hope is putting together gift boxes for Operation Christmas Child. There are empty gift boxes for Operation Christmas Child outside of the school office. You are invited to take a box to fill and return to the school.
