Dear Parents,
Week at a Glance
This week in handwriting we are writing the months of the year. We are practicing adding endings to root words in language. In religion we are learning about the time of the apostles and the early Christian church. We are finishing our unit on time in math. In reading we are editing sentences for punctuation, capitalization, and verb tense. During science we are learning about the questions that scientists ask. In social studies we are learning what history is and what we use for sources to teach us about history.

Raising Cane’s Spirit Night
Hope is hosting a spirit night at Raising Cane’s on Shawnee Mission Parkway tonight, Thursday, May 8th. A flyer for this event went home last week in Thursday folders.
Cleaning Wipes and Tissues
Our class supply of Clorox wipes and tissues is almost out. If you are able please send in a container of wipes or box of tissues to help keep our classroom clean and healthy. Anything is appreciated! Thank you to those who have sent supplies in.
Fine Arts Night
Please save the date for Fine Arts Night on May 15th at 6:30 pm. Attendance is required as part of their music grade. We are excited about the opportunity to showcase our Arts department. Our music directors, Mrs. Schkade and Miss Beumer, have worked with the students all year on music theory, rhythm, and tone. During the evening, each choir will perform under the direction of Mrs. Schkade. Our bands and recorders, directed by Miss Beumer, will also perform. Mrs. Bird’s art class projects will be displayed around the building; families will be invited to an Open House where they can enjoy the art projects done by the students.
Students will arrive at 5:45 pm and meet their teacher in their classroom. After the music performance, students return to their classrooms; parents pick them up.
Students in Kindergarten – 2nd grade are to wear their Sunday best. There will be a cookie reception after the program in the commons.
In addition, we will also have a silent auction with the class art projects. Bidding will be in person on Fine Arts Night, May 15th.
Water Bottles and Snacks
Please continue to send your student to school with a water bottle and a snack each day. This helps them stay hydrated and have enough energy to keep up their learning throughout the whole school day.
