Dear Parents

Week at a Glance
This week we are reading realistic fiction stories. In language we are learning about R-controlled vowels and adding the correct punctuation to sentences. In math we are finishing our unit on subtraction. In science we are learning about how materials can be combined. During religion we are continuing our study of Israel with the stories of the golden calf, the bronze serpent, and how Israel was instructed to build the tabernacle. In handwriting we are writing letters “u” and “s”. We are learning about the three branches of government in social studies.

Schedule
October 17 – Early Dismissal, Teacher Work Day, No ESC, End of 1st Quarter
October 24 – Trunk or Treat 5:30-7:00 pm

Report Cards
Report cards will go home in Thursday folders next week. Please return the white envelope to school.

Reading Logs
2nd graders will track their nightly reading assignments using a reading log. You must sign the reading log and record the name of the book your child read so your student can get credit for reading. Nightly reading helps students maintain and improve fluency and provides them with an opportunity to independently use the reading strategies they are learning in school.

Planners
Please continue to check your child’s planner. It needs to be returned to school each day.

Trunk or Treat
Hope is hosting a trunk or treat on Friday, October 24th from 5:30-7 pm. You are invited to attend.

Reformation Day
We will celebrate Reformation Day at the end of the month on October 31st. Please note that costumes are not permitted.
