Week at a Glance
This week in reading we started our novel study on “Charlotte’s Web”. In language we are practicing using common and proper nouns and learning the capitalization rules for nouns. In math we started a new unit on adding hundreds. In religion we are learning about Jesus’ parables. During social studies we are learning about aspects of American culture. In science we are continuing to learn about STEM and coding with robots. In handwriting we reviewed the cursive lowercase letters we have learned so far.

National Lutheran Schools Week
Hope will celebrate National Lutheran Schools Week March 8th-March 13th. The K-2 choir is singing at the 10:30 church service on March 8th. Your child’s attendance is expected as part of their choir grade. If your child cannot attend please email myself and their choir director, Mrs. Heiss (heiss@hopelutheran.org).
This week will be one of service, singing, and celebration. We are excited to celebrate being a Lutheran school. Please see the attached flyer for additional details.
Book Fair
2nd grade is going to the book fair on March 2nd. Students have the option to bring cash or you can set up a digital wallet for them. Please let me know if you set up a digital wallet so I can help your student. The book fair will also be open on Grandparent’s Day.
The Book Fair will be open during the following times:
March 9th – 11:30 – 3:30 pm
March 10th – 9 – 4:30 pm
March 11th – 11:30 – 4:30 pm
March 12th – 1:00 – 3:00 pm
March 13th – 9:00 – 11:30 am

Field Trip
Our field trip is this upcoming Tuesday, March 3rd. If you are driving for the field trip please look out for an email with additional information.
All students must have a booster seat in order to attend the field trip. We will be wearing uniforms. All students must bring a sack lunch to eat at school after the field trip.
All field trip drivers need to have the following documents on file with the school office:
- a current copy of insurance
- driver’s license
- background check
Library Books
Each Thursday students have the option to check out books from the school library. Students are not permitted to borrow a new book until the previous book has been returned. School library books should be returned by Tuesday of each week so students can check out a new book.
History Fair
Information will be coming soon for this year’s curriculum fair. The focus this year is history. Second grade’s research focus is American inventors.
Students will be responsible for a research project which will be completed mostly at school. Any aspects that must be completed at home will be shared in advance.
Cold Weather
Please send your child with an appropriate jacket for each day’s weather. Students are not permitted to go out for recess if they are not adequately dressed with a warm jacket. Students may also bring gloves and hats to help them stay warm during this cold and snowy season.
Snow Days
Please be aware that all communication regarding school closure for snow days will come from the office.
