Dear Parents,
Welcome to the 2025-2026 school year! I am excited to have your students in second grade this year. My name is Miss Hannah Christian and I am teaching second grade at Hope this year.
Theme
Our theme for the 2025-2026 school year is “Let’s Make a Joyful Noise” from Psalm 98:4. “Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth; break forth into joyous song and sing praises!” We are looking forward to a year full of joy as we go into a new year of learning and growing.
About the Teacher
This is my third year of teaching, and my first year teaching second grade. My favorite subjects are reading, religion, social studies, music, and art. I am from Colorado and enjoy going to the mountains and seeing God’s creation! My goal for my students is to love learning and build their independence and skills throughout the year.
What to Expect in Second Grade?
Your students will be expected to gain more independence throughout second grade. Students are responsible for reading aloud for fifteen minutes each night for homework. This helps promote fluency and increase their comfort level with reading. We will review and extend our understanding of addition and subtraction concepts. Second graders begin learning cursive handwriting during second quarter.
Second graders walk directly into the building for drop-off and dismissal beginning the first day of school.
This newsletter will be updated weekly with second grade schedules and announcements. You will also be able to view memory and spelling assignments on the website. Please refer to the K-3 Scoop for other announcements and information. I will have class schedules available on Back to School Night.
Important Note
The second grade lunchtime has moved to a 12:05 start time. Your student will need to bring a healthy snack for both the morning and afternoon to help them keep up their energy throughout the day. Please note that candy is not a snack. Students should also bring a water bottle to help them stay hydrated during the school day.
