Newsletter – October 19th

October 18, 2023

Dear Parents,

It is such a joy to teach your children. They are eager to learn and it is wonderful to hear their questions and ideas each day.

Week at a Glance

Our reading lessons this week highlighted words with the short “o” sound. We also read about traffic signals and road safety. We memorized the eighth commandment and learned about the Lutheran Reformation this week during religion. We are reviewing our knowledge of light and heat energy during science this week. In social studies we are continuing to learn about holidays celebrated in the United States and why we take time to recognize these people and events. We are preparing for Veteran’s Day in choir by singing “America the Beautiful”. This week we are beginning a new math unit that focuses on subtraction. This week our spelling theme is words that end with “-ck”. We are practicing writing numbers in handwriting.

Permission Slips

Permission slips are due back by October 20th for our field trip to the Coterie Theatre. Thank you to those who have already returned permission slips! Please consider volunteering to drive. If we do not have enough parent drivers the school must charge a fee to charter a bus.

Reading Books

Thank you for helping support your child’s reading development by listening to them read each night. These reading books need to come back to school every day. The students understand that the book is their responsibility to bring to class so they can read from it during small group time.
Auction

The Parents Auction for Hope School is coming up quickly on November 4th. This is a no child event. Please considering attending to bid on an auction item to support our school. We have baskets, packages provided by the teachers, and other items to bid on at the auction.
All Pro Dads

Hope’s All Pro Dad’s group will be meeting at 7:15 am on Friday, November 3rd. This is a wonderful opportunity to spend quality time with your child and enjoy fellowship with other dads from the school. The meeting will consist of a breakfast and devotion. Please consider attending this event!

Early Dismissal

School will dismiss early on October 20th. First grade will dismiss at 11:20 am. Please plan accordingly. Report cards will go home the following week.

Water Bottles

Please remember to send your child with a water bottle each day. It helps your child stay hydrated and focused on learning.

Veteran’s Day Program

First grade has begun practicing our music and performance for our Veteran’s Day program. We are learning about veterans in social studies as well. Our Veteran’s Day program is intended for veterans only and is not open to parents and young siblings. Thank you!

Operation Christmas Child

Operation Christmas Child will begin soon. The boxes will be collected during chapel on Wednesday, November 8th.  Shoeboxes will soon be available at the school entrance and the church narthex. Please consider donating items for an Operation Christmas Child shoebox with your family!
