Dear Parents,
I pray that you and your family had a safe and restful fall break!
Week at a Glance
This week in handwriting we are writing the letter “i”. During language class we are listening for rhyming words and learning the consonant blends “spl-” and “spr-“. Our religion lessons this week are about the history of the Lutheran reformation. For memory we memorized the eighth commandment which instructs us to tell the truth. In math we are practicing our skills with related addition and subtraction facts by finding missing addends and subtracting to compare. For reading we are reading decodable stories and learning how to read maps. During social studies we are learning about community helpers. In science we are noticing how the weather changes with the seasons.
Schedule
October 16-18 – Food Collection
October 18 – Early Dismissal
October 25 – Trunk-or-Treat
November 1 – Field Trip
Early Dismissal
Hope will have early dismissal on Friday, October 18th. First grade early dismissal time is at 11:30 a.m. Please plan accordingly.
Sweaters and Jackets
The weather is beginning to get chilly as we near the end of October. Please make sure you send your child to school with a jacket every day. Morning recess is often colder than the maximum temperature for the day. Additionally your student may bring a uniform sweater or Hope sweatshirt to wear in the classroom if they are cold throughout the day.
Water Bottles
Please continue to send your child to school with refillable water bottles. This helps them stay hydrated so they can learn throughout the day.
Food Collection
Hope is collecting food to donate to Shawnee Mission Community from October 16th to 18th. Please consider donating canned goods to help us support our local community.
Trunk or Treat
Hope will host a Trunk or Treat event on Friday, October 25th from 5:30-7:00 pm. There is no cost to this event. If you are interested in hosting a trunk, please contact Miss Mondary at mondary@hoplutheran.org.
Cleaning Wipes
Our class supply of Clorox wipes is getting low as we approach the end of the first quarter. If you are able to please send in a container of Clorox wipes to help our classroom stay clean and healthy. Anything is appreciated!
