February 26, 2026

Hi all,

I hope you are doing well! The class has had a wonderful week filled with learning and fun. I cannot believe the third quarter is almost over! For those of you who have travel plans coming up, I hope you have safe travels!

Math

The class is rocking our measurement unit! We have been using many hands-on manipulatives such as building cubes and our classroom scale to explore height and weight. The students have done an excellent job following directions and staying on task.

We will soon begin working on telling time. We will use individual practice clocks in class, and I am working on finding optional worksheets that can be completed at home for extra practice. Telling time can be tricky without frequent exposure, so additional practice is always helpful!

Reading

Reading groups are really coming together! Students are improving each day in staying focused and completing their assigned tasks.

This week we are heavily focusing on vowel teams, as I am noticing some challenges across groups. These can be difficult concepts to understand and remember, so we will continue practicing and reinforcing them in small groups.

Writing

The class LOVES journal time!

We are currently writing short three-word sentences while focusing on:

  • Proper capitalization
  • Correct punctuation

We have reviewed periods, exclamation points, and question marks. I briefly introduced quotation marks, but we will not be diving into more complex punctuation at this time.

Science

We are continuing our Earth and Sun unit. We will not have science this week due to no school on Friday. Next week, we will begin learning about recycling.

Social Studies

In honor of Black History Month, we have been learning about influential African American leaders who made a positive impact on our communities and country, including:

  • Rosa Parks
  • Barack Obama
  • Harriet Tubman
  • Ruby Bridges
  • Martin Luther King Jr.

The students have really enjoyed learning about these historical figures and how they helped uplift their communities.

Religion

We have been practicing our Grandparents Day songs each morning. I have also been reading a story about the life of Jesus with the class.

Important Dates

  • February 26 – Movie Night (5:30 PM)
  • February 27 – NO SCHOOL (Teacher Professional Development)
  • March 8 – K–2 Choir Performance (10:30 service)
  • March 13 – Grandparents Day & Early Dismissal
  • March 13 – Half Day Dismissal (11:30 AM)
  • March 16–20 – Spring Break

Other Important Information

During the third quarter, our offerings are going to Lutheran Bible Translators. So far, we have collected $357.38 — amazing generosity from our class!

As always thank you for your support, please reach out if you have any questions!
