Hi all,

I just wanted to let you know that this week has been fantastic! We have had so much fun participating in all of the activities that have been planned. I am so proud of the class and wanted to make sure you all knew how well they have been doing.

Since this week is National Lutheran Schools Week, academics have not been at the forefront. Instead, we have been spending a lot of time playing, dancing, singing, and enjoying some extra free time together. The students have really been enjoying it!

Math:
We have completed two lessons over telling time, and the class is doing well so far. Right now we are focusing on very basic terminology such as the sequence of events (first, next, last, second, third). I am still looking for developmentally appropriate worksheets that match their current level of understanding that they can do (optinaolly) over break.

Social Studies:
This week we have been learning about Italy! The students really enjoyed looking at monuments and learning about different parts of Italian culture, including food.

Science:
We are not doing an official lesson this week since we have a half day on Friday, but we will be discussing our five senses and how we use them during different times throughout the day.

Reading and Writing:
We are only completing two reading lessons this week as well. We are continuing to work on blends, vowel teams, and sentence completion. I found a jingle that the students responded really well to that has helped them better understand vowel teams.

The students are also beginning to write longer and more complex sentences. They are continuing to do very well. We will also start practicing names and numbers a little more to make sure those skills stay strong and continue developing.

Religion:
We are continuing to work through New Testament stories. Soon we will begin talking about Jesus’ crucifixion. This lesson will not be descriptive or detailed about the crucifixion itself, but will focus more on why Jesus died for us.
