I hope your week is going well! I do not have much new to report, our class has been doing well and working hard. We are in our last four weeks of school… can you believe it? This year has flown by so quickly, and I can’t believe it is almost over. I want to sincerely thank you all again for your support and patience this year. This class has meant so much to me, and I truly could not have gotten through the year without your kindness and support.
Math:
We are still working on subtraction, and the class continues to do a great job! We will finish our current chapter next week and then move on to recognizing and remembering the numbers 11–20. We will continue practicing both addition and subtraction to help students retain what they have learned.
We have also been working on counting to 100 by 1s, 5s, and 10s, they are rocking it!
Reading and Writing:
This week, we are working in our journals. The class is doing fairly well with sentence starters. While I do see some struggles with spelling, I have no concerns, as students are sounding out words and doing their best to spell independently. The class continues to show great growth in handwriting.
During independent reading time, students are choosing both developmentally appropriate and leveled books. They have really enjoyed having the freedom to select books that interest them! I am also allowing students to choose books directly from the library (unleveled) so they can use their imagination while reading, which is very beneficial developmentally.
Social Studies:
This week, we are starting a unit on China. We discussed the Great Wall of China earlier in the week, and the class seemed very intrigued!
Science:
We will begin discussing observation and how what we notice can differ depending on what we are observing (movement, sound, light, etc.).
Religion:
We are continuing to learn about people who played important roles in the Bible.
