Newsletter – October 19th

October 18, 2023

Tomorrow is the end of our first quarter. The pick-up time for 3rd grade is 11:40 for our early dismissal. There is no extended care available.

We have only one more day to bring food items for Trick Or Treat So Others Can Eat! Thank you to those who have already brought in food items.

Cold Weather Drive – Please join Cub Scout Pack 3050 in collecting gently used or new winter items: gloves, hats, coats, blankets-anything to keep our neighbors warm! Drive benefits Immanuel Community Outreach Association in KCK. Questions? Please email pack3050@gmail.com

The weather is changing! Even though we have some warm sunny days mixed in, the overall temperatures are dropping this time of year. Please be sure that your child has a warm coat for recess.
Outdoor Recess Policy
On most days, students will be expected to go outside for recess.  If the following conditions exist, the students will not be taken out except to get a few minutes of fresh air.

  • The temperature is 15 degrees F. (-13 C) or below.  The wind chill index is 0 (-18 C) or below.  There is significant falling moisture.
  • Teachers may take their classes out briefly for fresh air at their discretion.

Report Cards –  Look for your student’s report card coming home in the Thursday envelopes next week. Report cards will be in a separate white envelope. Please sign and return the empty envelope to confirm that you have received the report card.

SCREENING DATES

Screenings – Dental: October 26, will start around 1:00 p.m.  Dr. Bohaty will screen K-8. Toothbrushes will be provided.
Vision: November 2, starting around 12:00 p.m. The Lions Club will bring their vision machine.
*If you do not want your child screened please contact Nurse Buckmaster directly at buckmaster@hopelutheran.org.

Book-It  – We are participating in the Pizza Hut Book-It Program again this year. Please use the calendars that were sent home at the beginning of the month to keep track of the minutes read each day.  Remember that our goal is to read for at least 20 minutes, 6 out of 7 days each week. At the end of the month, all those who have met our reading goal will receive a certificate for a free personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut. *Please remember to write the number of minutes read each day on the calendar. (Just a parent’s signature at the bottom of the month with no minutes listed does not qualify as meeting the goal.)

Operation Christmas Child –  Hope is again collecting Operation Christmas Child boxes this year.  We will bring them to chapel on November 8, to pray for the children who will receive them. This is a great opportunity for us to reach out to share the Good News of Christ with others!  So I am challenging our classroom to fill 15 boxes.  If we make or surpass our goal, the class will earn 30 min. game/activity time in the classroom.  If you have more items than you can fit in a shoebox, but not enough to fill another, (this often happens in my family) send them into our classroom and we will put them all together to fill additional boxes.

Reformation Stained Glass – Our class has been working on an art project that names the “three solas” identified with the Reformation by Martin Luther. They are sola scriptura, sola gratia, and sola fide, that is, scripture alone, by grace alone, through faith alone. Some of their work will be displayed in the narthex this Sunday as we celebrate Reformation at Hope next weekend.
