Newsletter – October 26th

October 25, 2023

Report Cards –  Look for your student’s report card coming home in the Thursday envelopes this week. Report cards will be in a separate white envelope. Please sign and return the empty envelope to confirm that you have received the report card.

Trunk or Treat –  Come join us for Trunk or Treat in Hope’s parking lot tomorrow, October 27, from 5:30 – 7:00. Many different groups from Hope are hosting trunks. Come to enjoy the fun!

Reformation Stained Glass – Our class has been working on an art project that names the “three solas” identified with the Reformation by Martin Luther. They are sola scriptura, sola gratia, and sola fide, that is, scripture alone, by grace alone, through faith alone. Some of their work will be displayed in the narthex this Sunday as we celebrate Reformation at Hope this weekend.

Reformation Day – Students can wear fall colors or October t-shirts with uniform bottoms on Tuesday, October 31st, to celebrate Reformation Day.  No Halloween t-shirts!

The weather is changing! Even though we have some warm sunny days mixed in, the overall temperatures are dropping this time of year. Please be sure that your child has a warm coat for recess.
Outdoor Recess Policy
On most days, students will be expected to go outside for recess.  If the following conditions exist, the students will not be taken out except to get a few minutes of fresh air.

  • The temperature is 15 degrees F. (-13 C) or below.  The wind chill index is 0 (-18 C) or below.  There is significant falling moisture.
  • Teachers may take their classes out briefly for fresh air at their discretion.

Cold Weather Drive – Please join Cub Scout Pack 3050 in collecting gently used or new winter items: gloves, hats, coats, blankets-anything to keep our neighbors warm! Drive benefits Immanuel Community Outreach Association in KCK. Questions? Please email pack3050@gmail.com

Operation Christmas Child –  Hope is again collecting Operation Christmas Child boxes this year.  We will bring them to chapel on November 8, to pray for the children who will receive them. This is a great opportunity for us to reach out to share the Good News of Christ with others!  So I am challenging our classroom to fill 15 boxes.  If we make or surpass our goal, the class will earn 30 min. game/activity time in the classroom.  If you have more items than you can fit in a shoebox, but not enough to fill another, (this often happens in my family) send them into our classroom and we will put them all together to fill additional boxes.

Book Reports – This quarter we will be writing and sharing book reports.  They will not be due until December. More information will be coming home in the next several weeks, but I encouraged the kids to begin looking for the book that they would like to use for their report. This book should be in the genre of fiction. They have been so excited to read the chapter books in the classroom already!

Get ready to Rock the 50’s! –  Parents Auction for Hope School (PAHS) is on Saturday, November 4!
Information about items available and online bidding has been sent out through the Remind app and in Hope’s Happenings. Come join the fun and help us raise funds for our special classes and technology needs! I am offering an afternoon of crafts or games in December for the kids so that mom and dad can have an opportunity to get holiday projects/shopping done without the “help” of their children.
