Newsletter – November 2nd

November 1, 2023

The weather is changing! Even though we have some warm sunny days mixed in, the overall temperatures are dropping this time of year. Please be sure that your child has a warm coat for recess.
Outdoor Recess Policy
On most days, students will be expected to go outside for recess.  If the following conditions exist, the students will not be taken out except to get a few minutes of fresh air.

  • The temperature is 15 degrees F. (-13 C) or below.  The wind chill index is 0 (-18 C) or below.  There is significant falling moisture.
  • Teachers may take their classes out briefly for fresh air at their discretion.

Cold Weather Drive – Please join Cub Scout Pack 3050 in collecting gently used or new winter items: gloves, hats, coats, blankets-anything to keep our neighbors warm! Drive benefits Immanuel Community Outreach Association in KCK. Questions? Please email pack3050@gmail.com

Veterans Day – We are looking forward to showing our appreciation for veterans next Friday. Our Veterans Day presentation will be in the church sanctuary on November 10th at 1:30 p.m. November 10th. This is a program for our veterans and active-duty military personnel rather than parents. It is not intended for parents unless they have served in the military. All students will wear a school uniform on November 10th. No spirit wear or fun socks.

Operation Christmas Child boxes will be collected at the beginning of chapel next week.  Our goal is to have 15 boxes from our classroom!

Christmas Families – This will mark our 30th year of offering the love of Christ through the outpouring of food and clothing to those less fortunate during the Christmas season. With your generosity, we have successfully given for many years to those in need. We are asking you to consider joining us in making it another successful season for four families that we at Hope Lutheran School have adopted for this Christmas. Watch for more information about how you can help with this mission in the Thursday envelope. Next week will begin to collect grocery items. Our class is asked to bring 1 item: applesauce, canned peaches, mandarin oranges, pears… (unsweetened or lite) on Tuesday. On Thursday, please send in a box of cereal (prefer Cheerios, Rice Krispies, or Honey Bunches of Oats).

Culver’s Spirit Event– November 13th from 11:00 am – 9:00 pm at the Lenexa location. You must present a flier (that you will find in the Thursday envelope) when ordering.

2nd Quarter Book Reports – I am encouraging students to choose the book they would like to read for their book reports and submit their choice to me by next Friday, November 10th. They may use a book from home, the library, or our classroom. (They may want to have several in mind in case their first choice has already been taken or it is not the correct reading level for them.) The genre is fiction.

Get ready to Rock the 50’s! –  Parents Auction for Hope School (PAHS) is on Saturday, November 4!
Information about items available and online bidding has been sent out through the Remind app and in Hope’s Happenings. Come join the fun and help us raise funds for our special classes and technology needs! I am offering an afternoon of crafts or games in December for the kids so that mom and dad can have an opportunity to get holiday projects/shopping done without the “help” of their children.
All bidding will be on Greater Giving.

The Ninth Commandment: You shall not covet your neighbor’s house.
