Newsletter – November 30th

November 29, 2023

We have had a fun and “spirit” “-filled week! We had a lot of jammies and stuffed buddies on Monday, lots of teams represented on Tuesday, western wear on Wednesday, and lots of school spirit on Thursday. I am looking forward to a very comfy day on Friday. Along with Spirit Week, we have been working on the Christmas program, applying our multiplication skills in math, learning about energy in science class, talking about different customs and traditions in social studies, and what it means to be God’s children as we take time to focus on His coming during this season of Advent.

20th MBHC Tournament – For the last 21 years we have been hosting a basketball tournament that honors our founding principal Mr. B.  The tournament is on December 1st – 3rd.  We have 10 schools participating this year from MO, OK, and KS.  This is a tournament for the 7th and 8th grade basketball teams. We need a lot of volunteers to have a successful tournament. Please consider helping out. Here is the Sign-Up Genius to volunteer. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0948ADAC28A4FF2-45319081-2023#/

Singing for MBHC and Crown Center  The 1st – 6th grade choir will sing during Hope’s 9:30 AM service this coming Sunday in the Family Life Center.  Students are to arrive at 9:20 am. Students will sit on the stage with the choir teachers. Then they will be dismissed before the Gospel reading.
Participation in this service is worth points toward your child’s choir grade. If your child cannot be there, please email Mrs. Schkade at schkade@hopelutheran.org or Miss Christian at christian@hopelutheran.org with a note of explanation so your child receives an “excused absence” in the grade book.

Crown Center  Hope Lutheran choirs are singing at Crown Center on Tuesday, December 15th. We ask that all students arrive at Crown Center at 5:15 pm and meet their teacher in front of the Hallmark Store, second level.  The students 3rd – 6th grade and band are to wear white tops and black bottoms. 1st – 2nd grade is to wear their Christmas BEST.  Hope Lutheran School is scheduled to perform at 5:45 pm.
Participation in this event is worth points toward your child’s choir grade. If your child cannot be there, please email Mrs. Schkade at schkade@hopelutheran.org (3rd – 6th grade choir), Miss Christian at christian@hopelutheran.org (1st-2nd grade choir) with a note of explanation so your child receives an “excused absence” in the gradebook. Advanced Band students, please communicate with Mrs. Eckhoff.  We look forward to sharing Jesus with the community and who Hope Lutheran School is.

Book Reports – I have been encouraging the class to read their chosen chapter books t for their book reports. Many of the students are almost finished reading and are ready to make their posters. They are due on Monday, Dec. 11. The students will present them to the class throughout that week.

We continue to collect for our Christmas Families.  Below you will find the items that our Christmas Family is in need of.  We are helping out four families from our community.  If you are able to help, please see the list below.  We are blessed by our generous Hope family.

Book-It – We are participating in the Pizza Hut Book-It Program this year. Please use the monthly reading chart provided to keep track of the number of minutes read each week.  Remember that our goal is to read for 20 minutes per day, or at least 520 minutes (about 8 1/2 hours) each month outside of the school day. Please keep track of the minutes for Book-It on the monthly calendar, which will come home in the Thursday envelope to turn in at the end of the month. All those who have met our reading goal will receive a certificate for a free personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut. The November calendar is due on or before Wednesday, December 6th. The December calendars are in this week’s envelope.

Jingle Grams will be on sale December 11-15 at drop-off each morning. For just $1 you can send a Christmas card with a candy cane to friends at school. They will be delivered to classrooms by Wednesday, Dec. 20.

Angels Aware is the title of the 1st-4th grade Christmas program this year. Almost all of the students will be dressed in costume as angels. Boys will need white or light-colored pants and a white shirt. Girls will need a white T-shirt and white (or very light-colored) leggings to wear under their costumes. The program is Thursday, Dec. 14th.

Spelling words for next week:   3.2 (abbreviations)

A.M.ASAPBlvd.no.etc.
P.M.P.S.Rd.vs.wt.

Sentence:  The game was the Bears vs. the Lions.

Memory work for December 8:
Ephesians 2:8-9  For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

Holiday Shop coming to Hope – We are proud to announce that we have chosen The Kids’ Choice® Gift Shop for our Children’s Holiday Gift Store this year. The Kids’ Choice® Gift Shop will allow your children to shop for high-quality gifts for friends and family in the secure atmosphere of our school. The Kids’ Choice® Gift Shop program allows our children to make real-life shopping decisions…plus they learn that giving is as important as receiving. Gift items start at less than $1.00, with most in the $1.00 to $5.00 range. We are sending this notice home now for two reasons:
1. To give those children who would prefer to purchase gifts with their own money enough time to earn that money through chores, etc.
2. To ask for volunteer parents and/or grandparents to help us run the shop. If you are interested in helping, please call the school.
