Martin Luther King Day – Remember that we do not have school on Monday. We are spending some time this week discussing Martin Luther King, Jr. and the great contributions that he made to our country’s progress in civil rights.
NATIONAL LUTHERAN SCHOOLS WEEK is the week of January 21-26. This is a wonderful event that we can celebrate here at Hope. This year’s theme is Connected. “I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit.” John 15:1-2
Sunday Worship – Join us for church at Hope Lutheran Church at 8 am or 10:30 am services. K – 2nd Grade will sing @ 8:00 am service and 3rd – 6th Grade will sing @ 10:30 am. A Band will also play during the 10:30 service.
Join us for fellowship & coffee hour starting at 9:00 am. The school is sponsoring treats in Concord Hall. We are still in need of additional help in providing treats. Please consider donating baked goods for Sunday’s coffee hour with our supporting church: Sign up to help with treats
The all-school Spelling Bee is on January 17th. We had a classroom Spelling Bee this week to see who our competitors would be. Oliver and Jayelle will be our 3rd-grade contestants with Owen as the alternate. The winner of the all-school Spelling Bee will move on to the Johnson County Spelling Bee.
Please make sure that your child is ready for any kind of weather. We will be going outside for recess whenever we can to get fresh air. Students are required to wear a coat or jacket when temps are below 50, so hoodies were OK in the afternoons this week. We also go out when the temps drop, and the air is cold! (We will not go outside when the temps. drop into the lower teens or wind chill is in the single digits. I don’t want to be out then either!) We will, however, go out when it is freezing temperatures. Hats, gloves or mittens, and a warm coat is important – even when we are only outside for 15 minutes.
We will not have a spelling list for next week due to the short week.
Memory for January 17:
The First Article: Creation
What does this mean? (Part 2)
He also gives me clothing and shoes, food and drink, house and home, wife and children, land, animals, and all I have. He richly and daily provides me with all that I need to support this body and life. He defends me against all danger and guards and protects me from all evil.
