Newsletter – March 7th

March 6, 2024

It’s time for SPRING BREAK!!!  I think we can all use a little break. I think we are getting a touch of “spring fever” with the warm weather we have been enjoying! Don’t forget to set your clocks ahead this weekend for daylight savings time. (I’m glad it comes at the beginning of spring break so that our bodies can get used to the time change before we come back to school.)

Grandparents Day – We are asking that all students wear their regular uniforms rather than spirit wear and silly socks for Grandparents Day tomorrow. We are looking forward to the day with them! Remember that is an early dismissal day. All 3rd graders need to check out with me before leaving with a grandparent if they are not doing our normal pick-up routine through the car line.

Biography Book Reports – We have had a number of students present the timelines they have made to tell about the biographies they have read for this quarter’s book report. The class has been asking our presenters some great questions. We plan to finish our presentations today.

Science Fair – The next due date for the science fair is April 10. The students have about a month to conduct their experiment and keep data so that they are ready to form their conclusion. It is helpful to take pictures as they work through the steps of their experiment so that they can be used as part of their display for the science fair. It is a good idea to get started soon so that there is plenty of time to gather results! Students are purchasing their tre-fold boards already. The cost for the board is $6.00. The colors available are blue, red, yellow, or green. It is first come first serve for the boards so the sooner you purchase, the better chance of getting your first choice of color. We hope that this is a fun and educational project for your children!

Advanced notice! My class has a tradition of making egg trees for Easter during Holy Week. Your child will need the following on Monday morning, March 25:

  • 1 – 6”-8” clay pot (clean, with price tag completely removed)
  • 1 dozen blown out eggs (RINSED!)
  • 1 tree branch (It should be about 18″-24″ tall with plenty of other little branches to hang our eggs on.)

I will supply all the other materials needed. Please do not send these items into the classroom (especially branches) until Holy Week.

We will begin the 4th quarter in reading class with the book “Little House in the Big Woods”. Our spelling words will be taken from our vocabulary instead of following a certain vowel pattern or syllable type.

Spelling words for March 22:

trundlethimblebriarravinesolemn
woodsbearroastedfiddlebullets

Sentence: Pa played his fiddle at night.

Memory for March 2
0:   The Third Article: Sanctification
What does this mean?  (Part 2)
In the same way He calls, gathers, enlightens, and sanctifies the whole Christian church on earth, and keeps it with Jesus Christ in the one true faith.

Have a great spring break!  Enjoy the extra time with God’s precious gifts – your children!
