November 20, 2024

We have so many things to be thankful for!  I am thankful for the privilege of working with your children.  They really are such a blessing!  I hope that you are able to enjoy your family time next week as you thank God for your many blessings!

Book Reports – I am encouraging the class to take home the chapter books that they have chosen for their book reports. Some of them are almost finished reading and will be ready to start making their posters! This might be a good project for next week while they have some extra time. Our book reports for this quarter will be in the form of a poster. You will find a sheet with directions and a rubric in this week’s Thursday envelope. I am also attaching a link below. Completed posters will be due on Friday, December 13, to be presented the following week in class.

Christmas Families – This will mark our 31st year of offering the love of Christ through the outpouring of food and clothing to those less fortunate during the Christmas season.   With your generosity, we have successfully given for many years to those in need.   We are asking for you to consider joining us in making it another successful season for four families that we at Hope Lutheran School have adopted during this season of Christmas. Listed below is a schedule. This is what the children are asked to bring to school for these families.

  • Tuesday, NOVEMBER 26 – TOILET PAPER/PAPER TOWELS
    3rd – 8th Grade – Donate a package of toilet paper (2-ply please)
  • Tuesday, December 3 – LAUNDRY DETERGENT/ SOAP DAY
3rd – 8th Grade – Donate laundry detergent or dishwasher detergent (fragrance-free and clear)
  • Thursday, December 5 through Friday, December 13 – GIFT CARD DAYS
Gift cards are needed from Price Chopper, Target, Walmart, or Aldis. These stores are located throughout the metro area and work best for families. Please put the amount of the gift card on the back.

Recorders – Miss Beumer is letting the third-graders bring their recorders home to practice over Thanksgiving. Recorders must be brought back to school for class when they return from Thanksgiving break so they can continue with their lessons at school.

Spirit Week – Starts the week after Thanksgiving! We have fun things planned for each day, Dec. 2-6. Look for a flyer in today’s envelope for more details.

Pep Rally – We have a pep rally on Thursday, Dec. 5th at 2:00 to kick off the basketball season. Parents are invited to attend!

20th MBHC Tournament – For the last 22 years we have been hosting a basketball tournament that honors our founding principal Mr. B.  The tournament is on December 6th – 8th.  We have 10 schools participating this year from MO, OK, and KS.  This is a tournament for the 7th and 8th grade basketball teams. We need a lot of volunteers to have a successful tournament. Please consider helping out. Watch for a Sign-Up Genius to volunteer.

Advent – The season of Advent begins December 1st. You are invited to join us at Hope Lutheran Church on Wednesdays beginning on December 3rd, at 4 pm, or 7 pm.

Crown Center – Our 1st – 7th grade choirs and A Band have been invited to perform at Crown Center on December 12th. Students are to arrive at 5:30pm. Students are to wear a white top and black bottoms. They will meet their teacher on the second level by the Hallmark Store. We’re looking forward to sharing Jesus with the community!

Classroom Christmas Gift Exchange – For our class Christmas party on Dec. 20, we will gift each other silly socks that can be worn on Fridays. Watch for more information to come home with your student next week. The kids will fill out a survey to help with the sock shopping before we draw names. (Cost for the gift should not exceed $5.00)

We will not have memory or spelling assignments for next week since we only have 2 days of school. The following assignments are for the week after Thanksgiving.
