Serve-a-thon
At Hope Lutheran School, we are called to serve others as the hands and feet of Christ. This year, we are excited to do our Serve-A-Thon, which is like our traditional Walk-A-Thon, as a way to actively live out our faith by reaching out and making a difference in the Johnson County community.
During the week of April 5th through the 9th, students will dedicate their time and energy to meaningful service projects throughout our city. From preschoolers serving on campus to older students working at various locations, each child will experience the joy of giving back. Through this, we hope they will see firsthand how their kindness and compassion can be a blessing to others.
As part of the Serve-A-Thon, students will raise funds to support Hope Lutheran School. Our goal is $32,000, which will go toward enhancing our school’s ever-evolving technology needs. Leading up to the event, students will collect pledges for the service project their class will complete. In addition, we will be giving LUMA 10% of our proceeds to support their mission.
Third Graders are planning to use their energy to help with yardwork around Hope Lutheran Church/School’s campus on Tuesday morning.
KITE Testing
The state of Kansas requires KAP/KITE testing. It is our state assessment test. It begins in third grade, so this is the first time our class will experience this format. We will spread it over 4 different days. There are 2 sections of both English/Language Arts and Math. Please ensure your student arrives on time to school, has a good breakfast, and gets plenty of sleep while we are testing.
We will take our last section on Thursday, April 10th.
Advanced notice!
My class has a tradition of making egg trees for Easter during Holy Week. Your child will need the following on Monday morning, April 14:
- 1 – 6”-8” clay pot (clean, with price tag completely removed)
- 1 dozen blown out eggs (RINSED!)
- 1 tree branch (It should be about 18″-24″ tall with plenty of other little branches to hang our eggs on.)
I will supply all the other materials needed. Please do not send these items (especially branches) into the classroom until Holy Week.
Make-up Snow Days
We have THREE snow days built into our calendar this year. We will be making up one day on April 25th.
Talent Show
We are having a talent show on April 25th. If your child would like to perform in the show, they can sign up using the form in today’s Thursday folders. These forms are due back at school by April 17th.
Movie Night
Student Council is hosting a dinner and movie night on Friday, April 11th, from 5:30-7:00. For just $7, you can get a dinner that includes 2 slices of pizza, a drink, and a salad. They will be showing the movie “Mufasa”. The movie is a free event, but the pizza dinners must be pre-ordered. Look for a flyer in today’s envelope!
