Our year is going by so quickly, and we have so much to do yet! These next weeks will be busy ones!
Serve-a-thon
Our school has been busy this week, focusing on sharing our faith through service to others. We are also fundraising for our school! Every student has a page on our fundraising website. Friends and family can even support your child by donating to their page. Students in the whole school are competing and have the opportunity to win different prizes all week long. Students will also earn class awards for activating their page and for the money they raise. Our goal is for each child to raise $250. Our classroom goal is $2,250 to fund our technology needs. Every dollar donation helps us to reach our goal! Visit our school page at https://hopelutheran.dojiggy.io/2025-serve-a-thon to see how the class teams are doing and to donate.
Chicks
The anticipation in our classroom grew this week as we put eggs into our incubator on Tuesday! It is hard to wait 21 days! We will review life science as we look at the chicken’s life cycle and hopefully get to see God’s handiwork firsthand through the miracle of the development and hatching of chicks in our classroom! (Thank you to the Schempp family for supplying us with the eggs!)
Dinner and Movie Night
Student Council is hosting a family movie and dinner night this Friday, April 11th, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. They will be showing the movie Mufasa. Flyers went home in last week’s envelope. You can see a copy of the flyer here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1c7t7R5AMy2kY4L56g873GjVtlVFH1b5J_HcOPGYj4SQ/edit?usp=sharing
Send Supplies Next Week!
My class has a tradition of making egg trees for Easter during Holy Week. Your child will need the following on Monday morning, April 14:
- 1 – 6”-8” clay pot (clean, with price tag completely removed) *Needed on Monday!
- 1 dozen blown out eggs (RINSED!) *Needed on Tuesday!
- 1 tree branch (It should be about 18″-24″ tall with plenty of other little branches to hang our eggs on.) *Needed on Wednesday!
I will supply all the other materials needed. Please do not send these items (especially branches) into the classroom until Holy Week.
Hopefully, we will finish this project on Wednesday, and students will bring them home that day.
Make-up Snow Days
We have THREE snow days built into our calendar this year. We will be making up one day on April 25th.
Oxford Schoolhouse
The date is set for Monday, May 5th! We are looking forward to our trip to the historic Oxford schoolhouse, where we will get the chance to experience a living history day in a rural one-room schoolhouse as students in 1909! This has been a favorite field trip in the past, as we dress in period clothing for that day. (The standard outfit of the day for boys was bib overalls, blue jeans or dungarees made of sturdy fabric with cotton or flannel shirts. Any color shirt was appropriate, except white, as it was impossible to keep white clean on an active farm boy. Girls wore dresses that fell anywhere below the knee but above the ankle. She might wear a pinafore or apron to keep her dress clean. Large hair bows were popular at the time. She usually wore black tights or stockings. Both girls and boys wore leather shoes or ankle boots.) Permission slips are in this week’s Thursday envelope.
Talent Show
We are having a talent show on April 25th. If your child wants to perform in the show, remember that their entry forms are due back at school by April 17th. (Forms were in last week’s Thursday envelopes.)
