The excitement is growing! We are anxiously waiting and watching the eggs in our incubator. We are hoping that they will hatch sometime next week!
Rocket League
Starting next Monday, April 28 through May 15, Mrs. Stava will be offering Rocket League open play on Mon/Tues/Thurs, 3:45 – 4:45 in the tech office for any student in 3rd – 8th grade who wants to get together and play. See more about it in this week’s announcements. If your student is interested in participating, parents need to email Stava@hopelutheran.org to let her know they want to participate, so she will know who to expect. Also, the parents will need to pick them up from the church entrance.
Get Ready for Our International Fair!
Our students have been working hard on their International Fair Projects, and we can’t wait for you to see their creativity and dedication come to life!
Join us for an exciting evening on Thursday, May 1st, as we celebrate the cultures of the world through student projects, traditional dance, and delicious food. Each grade level will showcase their assigned country with displays, performances, and interactive experiences.
Here’s what to expect:
5:45 PM – Students should arrive and check in with their teachers in their classrooms.
6:00 PM – The Parade of Countries will begin in the Family Life Center, featuring a traditional dance and student presentations.
After the parade, families are invited to tour classrooms to view projects and sample food from around the globe.
(If there are any families that would be willing to help with Jamaican food prep for that night, please let me know!)
*The girls will need a white top and light colored shorts to wear under their skirt (made with Jamaican plaid). The skirts are at school, and the girls will change when they arrive that evening. Boys need to wear blue slacks (uniform pants are good) and a white shirt with a collar. (They will wear Jamaican plaid bow ties.)
MAP Testing
We will continue our spring MAP testing next week. Please make sure your student arrives on time to school, has a good breakfast, and gets plenty of sleep while we are testing.

Oxford Schoolhouse
We are looking forward to our field trip to the historic Oxford schoolhouse next Friday, May 3rd, where we will get the chance to experience a living history day in a rural one-room schoolhouse as students in 1909! Thank you to those who have signed up to drive! This has been a favorite field trip in the past as we dress in period clothing for this day. (The standard outfit of the day for boys was bib overalls, blue jeans or dungarees made of sturdy fabric with cotton, or flannel shirts. Any color shirt was appropriate other than white as it was impossible to keep white clean on an active farm boy. Girls wore dresses that fell anywhere below the knee but above the ankle. She might wear a pinafore or apron to keep her dress clean. Large hair bows were popular at the time. She usually wore black tights or stockings. Both girls and boys wore leather shoes or ankle boots.) We will also need to bring sack lunches for this day. Again, we are encouraged to stay with the period in history so sandwiches and fruit or cheese would be appropriate.
Fine Arts Night
We are excited about the opportunity to showcase our Arts department. Our music directors, Mrs. Schkade and Miss Beumer, have worked with the students all year on music theory, rhythm, and tone. During the evening, each choir will perform under the direction of Mrs. Schkade. Our bands and recorders, directed by Miss Beumer, will also perform. Mrs. Bird’s art class projects will be displayed around the building; families will be invited to an Open House where they can enjoy the art projects done by the students.
Students will arrive at 5:45 pm and meet their teacher in their classroom. After the music performance, students return to their classrooms; parents pick them up.
The 3rd – 8th grade are to wear WHITE TOP AND BLACK BOTTOMS. There will be a cookie reception after the program in the commons.
In addition, we will also have a SILENT AUCTION with the class art projects. You can start bidding on them on April 25th.
Fine Arts Night is May 15th. Please sign up to bring the cookies for the cookie reception following the performances. Drop them off the morning of the 15th so we can get them trayed up for the evening. Thank you! COOKIE RECEPTION SIGN-UP:https://www.signupgenius.com/go/508084BAEA72FA0F85-56297498-fine
Hope Track Meet
This is a big meet that Hope hosts every spring. This year it will be on Saturday, May 10th, at the district stadium at Shawnee Mission South High School. It takes lots of people working together for this event. Even though students can’t compete in track until 4th grade, you can still volunteer to help out. There are many different jobs to fill, so you don’t have to have knowledge about a certain event to be of service. You also do not need to be at the track all day. Even the kids can help by being “runners” to take results from an event up to the people who are keeping the stats! Check out the sign-up genius that was sent out to see where help is needed. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C054CAEA82AA3F8C07-55897945-2025/181311586#/
With all of this activity, we are still working hard to learn as much as we can in the classroom yet! We have been working with polygons in math this week, and we will soon begin working on finding the area and perimeter of a shape in May. We are continuing with Little House on the Prairie during reading. In science, we will be focusing on weather. We continue to diagram sentences in our language arts time. We have been learning about the Caribbean Region in social studies. During our Bible study time, we have been working in the book of Acts and taking note of the many gifts God gives us each and every day!
