Third Grade News, 10/16

October 15, 2025

Tomorrow is the end of our first quarter. The pick-up time for 3rd grade is 11:50 for our early dismissal. There is no extended care available.

Field Trip –  Our field trip to Science City has been verified! Please take note of the permission slip in this week’s envelope and sign it to return.

Sharing with our Community – We have only one more day to bring food items for Shawnee Community Service. Thank you to those who have already brought in food items.

Social Studies  On Monday, we will take our test on the region of Africa. Students should use the study guide that they are bringing home today to help them prepare for this test.

Report Cards –  Look for your student’s report card coming home in the Thursday envelopes next week. Report cards will be in a separate white envelope. Please sign and return the empty envelope to confirm receipt of the report card. (Please do not seal the envelope, as we will be using it at the end of each quarter.)

Class Auction Basket  – This year’s auction basket theme is Family Game Night! Thank you to all who have donated items!

Book-It  – We are participating in the Pizza Hut Book-It Program again this year. Please use the calendars that were sent home at the beginning of the month to keep track of the minutes read each day.  Remember that our goal is to read for at least 20 minutes, 6 out of 7 days each week. (That’s equal to 540 minutes for October.) At the end of the month, all those who have met our reading goal will receive a certificate for a free personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut.

Reformation Stained Glass – Our class has been working on an art project that names the “three solas” identified with the Reformation by Martin Luther. They are sola scriptura, sola gratia, and sola fide, that is, scripture alone, by grace alone, through faith alone. Their work will be displayed in the narthex as we prepare to celebrate Reformation Sunday on Oct. 26th.

Choir Sings– The 3rd-5th grade choir will sing during the late service at Hope on November 2. Students should meet Mrs. Schkade in the Luther Room by 10:15 to warm up. Students will sit in the balcony until their piece is finished, then they will meet their parents in the sanctuary or the narthex. Parents, please email Mrs. Schkade and/or your child’s homeroom teacher if your child has other church or family commitments that prevent them from attending.
