Third Grade News, 1/22

January 21, 2026

The month of January is going by so quickly! Thank you for conferencing with me last week.

We are finishing up many units of study this week! We took our Chapter 6 multiplication test in math class yesterday. Next, we will work on division. We will continue our study of Asia in social studies and will be starting on our Olympics Unit soon!

We are continuing our work with biographies next week with our book study on Helen Keller. So far, we have learned about Martin Luther King Jr., Mama Miti, and Laura Ingles Wilder. We will also be reading biographies about Jane Addams, Frederick Douglass, and Milton Hershey.

Book report – Project information and rubric for our biography book reports are in this week’s envelope. For this book report, they will be making a timeline of their person.  Students have access to colored paper in the classroom for this project, if needed. The due date is Thursday, February 26, so that we can present them in the first week of March. I have a number of biographies available in the classroom, but students are not limited to those. Books need to be selected by January 30. I am encouraging them to jot down important dates and events as they read so they have the information for their timelines.

Open House will be available on Thursday, February 19th. Parents are encouraged to come to visit their child’s classroom for next year. Open House is open to anyone interested in attending Hope next year. We look forward to seeing you and new faces, too!

Student Ushers – The season of Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and continues through Easter. 3rd grade has been asked to help hand out service folders and serve as ushers for the 4:00 Wednesday Lenten Services beginning on February 25th. This is an opportunity for students to be involved in a way they enjoy and to serve the congregation that supports our school in so many ways. Student helpers can stay with me after school, and I will accompany them to the sanctuary and stay with them until after the service. Please use this Sign-Up Genius to indicate which service(s) your child could be available to serve. It is not expected that your child serve every week, but please indicate any/all weeks that it would be possible.  Lenten student usher sign-up

  • KinderKonzert: Philharmonia Fatastiquet – Tuesday, March 3rd
  • Lightwire: The Ugly Duckling – Thursday, April 9th
  • Link Up: The Orchastra Sings – Thursday, April 23rd
  • I will send updates when the Oxford Schoolhouse field trip is added to this list.

More information, as well as permission slips, will be going home in Thursday’s folders as these events get closer. We will need parent drivers for these field trips. Please be aware that if you plan to drive for a field trip, the school office must have updated insurance and a copy of your driver’s license. Thank you for helping to make these field trips happen!
