Happy 100th Day of School! We spent the day celebrating the joy of learning and the blessings of being able to come to school for the 100th day!

Geography Bee – Congratulations to Zach and Hunter, who were the winners of our classroom Geography Bee. They will represent our class in the School Geography Bee on February 26th. William is our alternate.

Book report – Project information and rubric for our biography book reports were sent home in the envelopes last month. I have included the links in this week’s news again for your convenience. For this book report, they will be making a timeline of their person.  Students have access to colored paper in the classroom for this project, if needed. The due date is Thursday, February 26, so that we can present them in the first week of March. I have a number of biographies available in the classroom, but students are not limited to those. Books need to be selected by January 30. I am encouraging them to jot down important dates and events as they read so they have the information for their timelines.

Open House will be available on Thursday, February 19th. Parents are encouraged to come to visit their child’s classroom for next year. Open House is open to anyone interested in attending Hope next year. We look forward to seeing you and new faces, too!

Student Ushers – The season of Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and continues through Easter. 3rd grade has been asked to help hand out service folders and serve as ushers for the 4:00 Wednesday Lenten Services beginning on February 25th. This is an opportunity for students to be involved in a way they enjoy and to serve the congregation that supports our school in so many ways. Student helpers can stay with me after school, and I will accompany them to the sanctuary and stay with them until after the service. Please use this Sign-Up Genius to indicate which service(s) your child could be available to serve. It is not expected that your child serve every week, but please indicate any/all weeks that it would be possible.  We really need more to sign up! Lenten student usher sign-up

Our classroom Valentine’s party will be on Friday, Feb. 13. As you make valentines, please include everyone in the class. Please have your child sign his/her name on the Valentine so that the recipient will know whom to thank. (Here is a list of student names for our class: Jemma, Spencer, Gianni, Grace, Hunter, Vyla, Carston, Mila, Ellie, Addie, Zach, Collin, Haset, Kennedy, Harper, William, Evelyn, Micah, Lawrence, Benji, and Gia.) This year, we planned to decorate bags at school to collect our Valentine’s, but students may make and/or bring Valentine boxes from home if they choose.

Redo/Corrections Policy reminder – Assignments that receive less than 75% are eligible for a redo. Assignments will go home each week in the Thursday envelope.  Corrections must be turned in by the following week to receive any additional points.  Quizzes and tests are not included as redo assignments. *Each redo assignment needs to be completed on a separate piece of paper and stapled to the original assignment.  The first page should be the redo assignment, with the assignment heading, the date, and the student’s name.  Students will only need to complete/redo the questions that were missed, not the whole assignment.
