Newsletter – August 31

August 30, 2023

Back-to-School Night – I was glad to share with many of you at Back-to-School Night on Monday night.  If you were unable to attend in person, the information that was shared is in a handout is being sent home in this week’s Thursday envelope.  Please do not hesitate to ask any questions or to express any concerns with me throughout the school year.

Room Parents – Kaydence’s mom, Christiana, has graciously offered to help out as a room parent for our classroom but we really need another family to help. Kaydence is a new student this year so it would be very helpful to have someone who has experienced what a year at Hope Lutheran looks like. Please consider volunteering to help. We need you.

Parent/Teacher Conferences – Conferences are scheduled for Thursday afternoon and evening on September 21st and again on Friday the 22nd. Please use this link to the sign-up Genius to choose your conference time. If you have questions or cannot find any time that works for you, please contact me.  https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60B0B4DABAE2DA13-3rdgrade4

Math – We are just finishing our first chapter on Number Sense. Next, we will be reviewing 2-digit addition and subtraction. We will also be using Rocket Math to work on multiplication next week.

Chapel – This week we were able to get together in our new chapel families for the school year. Each chapel family has students from each grade K-8th. We sat together as Pastor Bob led our chapel service. After chapel we had the opportunity to do a get-acquainted activity before students headed back to their own classrooms. Each grade has a special job to serve in worship and the first grade got to begin theirs this week. After chapel, the first-grade helpers come to each classroom to collect the offering for the week. (Remember that for the first quarter, our offerings are going to “Lead a Child”.) We have an offering basket that we keep on our classroom altar, so offerings can be brought in any day of the week, but they are collected on Wednesdays.

40th ANNIVERSARY BASH – September 9th from 4:00 – 7:00 pm on Hope’s parking lot.  This is a time to fellowship for school families and our church members as we celebrate the school.  Let’s celebrate 40 years with an evening of family fun!  Bid on homemade pies, support the 8th Grade Class trip to Washington DC, and FREE old-fashioned carnival games.  There will be a bounce house, face painting, cotton candy, popcorn, and balloon animals.  There will also be a Taco Food Truck, BBQ Dinners, and a Petting Zoo! The after-party will be hosted at Limitless Brewery from 7-9 p.m.
The school choirs and band will perform at the celebration.  Kindergarten-2nd grade students should meet their teachers at the picnic tables at 4:45 pm.  3rd-8th grade students should meet their teachers in the FLC commons at 4:45 pm.  The choirs will sing at 5:00 pm, and the band will perform after the choirs.  Students will be dismissed from the picnic tables to parents after they perform.  Students should wear Hope shirts and appropriate shorts.  If your child cannot attend, please email your child’s choir and/or band director to let her know.

We will also celebrate with special days throughout the week. Please see the attached flyer for details!

MAP Testing – Next week we will be giving a series of MAP tests to help us track the strengths of our students and also see areas in which to focus to help them grow in their learning. These are not tests that they can study for, but you can help them to do their best by making sure that they are well-rested and have had a good breakfast.

Spelling – Since next week is a short week and we are busy with MAP testing, we will not have a new spelling list or test next week

Memory – Remember there is a memory assignment every week. Students are expected to know the memory first thing Wednesday morning. Please work on the new memory assignment a little at a time starting on Friday through Tuesday evening. You can find the memory under the “Memory” tab for each week.

Next week’s memory:
The First Commandment and its meaning:
You shall have no other gods.
What does this mean?
We should fear and love and trust in God above all things.

Enjoy the extra day with your family this weekend!
