Newsletter – October 12th

October 11, 2023

End of First Quarter – The end of the 1st quarter is on Friday, October 20th. All absent, missing, and incomplete work must be turned in by Thursday, October 19th. October 20th is also an early dismissal day. 3rd grade dismisses at 11:40. Extended care will not be available.

On Monday, we will be taking our chapter 3 test in math. (3-digit subtraction)

On Wednesday, we will be taking our Unit 1 Social Studies test over the regions of the United States, and neighboring areas of Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean. The students have been doing a great job with their “Road Trip” flip books which are due on Monday.

We will be learning about Martin Luther during our religion time next week. We will be working on a Reformation project as well.

Science City – We are looking forward to our trip to Science City next week! Please remember that your child will need to bring their own lunch that day as we have made arrangements to eat on the premises there. Students should wear their normal school uniform for this field trip.
Our next field trip is next month on the 14th. We love to have parent involvement at school and when we are away on field trips! We require that anyone who comes to work with our students at school or accompanying us on a field trip have a current background check and drivers must have a copy of their license and proof of insurance on record at Hope. Since we have different activities coming up I would like to make sure that information is updated now rather than looking it up for every event. If you have anything that is in need of updating, I am sending the information home in the Thursday envelope today. Thank you for taking the time to make sure that your information is current.

Book-It  – We are participating in the Pizza Hut Book-It Program this year. Please use the monthly reading calendars to keep track of the number of minutes read each day.  Remember that our goal is to read for at least 20 minutes, 6 out of 7 days each week. Please keep track of the minutes for Book-It on the calendar in this week’s Thursday envelope to turn in at the end of the month. All those who have met our reading goal will receive a certificate for a free personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut.

Food Collection for “Trunk or Treat So Others Can Eat” –  We will be collecting food items next week, October 16-20, to donate to Shawnee Community Services. Items needed are canned/fruits & vegetables, rice, pasta, peanut butter, etc. Let’s share to show we care!

Trunk or Treat – Hope Lutheran is hosting Trunk or Treat on Friday, October 27th from 5:30 – 7:00 in the Hope parking lot. We invite you to come and join the fun! If you are interested in hosting a trunk, please let Miss Mondary know at mondary@hopelutheran.org as soon as possible.

PAHS Auction Donations  – Our Annual Hope Lutheran PAHS auction is on November 4th.  Money raised in our auction goes toward Art, Music, Spanish, and technology.   If you are able to donate something to the auction this year bring it by and drop it off in the school office.  Please note items must be new.  Help us make this year’s auction a huge success!  If you have any questions about a donation please contact Debra Heimsoth at auction@hopelutheran.org

Spelling words for next week:
 compound words

popcornfootballmoonlighteyesightplayground
haircutfireworksoutsideairportrattlesnake

Sentence: I squeezed toothpaste onto my toothbrush.

Memory for October 18
The Sixth Commandment: You shall not commit adultery.
What does this mean? We should fear and love God so that we lead a sexually pure and decent life in what we say and do, and husband and wife love and honor each other.

Chapel Offerings – Part of Hope Lutheran School’s values is teaching children God’s command to help others, and we should always return with gladness the blessings God has given us.
One of the many ways we follow this command is through our chapel offerings.  Each week we collect an offering at our chapel service.  A mission is selected quarterly, and a goal is set. For our first quarter chapel offerings will be going towards LEADaChild; LeadaChild is an independent Lutheran Mission Agency, dedicated to sharing the Good News of Jesus’ love to children through Christian education in third-world countries.

Operation Christmas Child –  Hope is again collecting Operation Christmas Child boxes this year.  We will bring them to chapel on November 8, to pray for the children who will receive them. This is a great opportunity for us to reach out to share the Good News of Christ with others!  So I am challenging our classroom to fill 15 boxes.  If we make or surpass our goal, the class will earn 30 min. game/activity time in the classroom.  If you have more items than you can fit in a shoebox, but not enough to fill another, (this often happens in my family) send them into our classroom and we can put them all together to fill additional boxes.

Singing – The 3rd & 4th grade choir will be singing at our 10:30 worship service on Sunday, October 15. Mrs. Schkade has asked that students meet in the Luther Room at 10:15 that morning to warm up their voices. Students will sit with their families until it is time for them to come forward to sing. If your student is unable to attend, parents need to let Mrs. Schkade know by sending an email to schkade@hopelutheran.org
