Report Card Envelopes – Thank you for sending the report card envelopes back to school. If you still have the envelope, please remember to return it. If you sent it back with the report card still enclosed, I am sending the report card back to you, but keeping the envelope for sending the next card home at the end of the semester.
Choir Singing this Sunday – The 3rd-5th grade choir will sing during the late service at Hope on November 2. Students should meet Mrs. Schkade in the Luther Room by 10:15 to warm up. Students will sit in the balcony until their piece is finished, then they will meet their parents in the sanctuary or the narthex. Parents, please email Mrs. Schkade and/or your child’s homeroom teacher if your child has other church or family commitments that prevent them from attending.
Reformation Stained Glass – Our class has been working on an art project that names the “three solas” identified with the Reformation by Martin Luther. They are sola scriptura, sola gratia, and sola fide, that is, scripture alone, by grace alone, through faith alone. Their work will still be displayed in the narthex this Sunday.
Spelling Bee – We will have a classroom Spelling Bee on Monday, November 3rd. We will determine our classroom: 1st place, 2nd place, and alternate. The school-wide Spelling Bee will be held on Wednesday, November 19th.
Science City – We are looking forward to our trip to Science City next week! Please remember that your child will need to bring their own lunch that day, as we have made arrangements to eat on the premises. Students should wear their normal school uniform for this field trip.
The weather is changing! Even though we have some warm sunny days mixed in, the overall temperatures are dropping this time of year. Please be sure that your child has a warm coat for recess.
Outdoor Recess Policy
On most days, students will be expected to go outside for recess. If the following conditions exist, the students will not be taken out except to get a few minutes of fresh air.
- The temperature is 15 degrees F. (-13 C) or below. The wind chill index is 0 (-18 C) or below. There is significant falling moisture.
- Teachers may take their classes out briefly for fresh air at their discretion.
Operation Christmas Child – Hope is again collecting Operation Christmas Child boxes this year. We will bring them to chapel on November 12, to pray for the children who will receive them. This is a great opportunity for us to reach out to share the Good News of Christ with others! So I am challenging our classroom to fill 21 boxes. If we make or surpass our goal, the class will earn 30 min. game/activity time in the classroom. If you have more items than you can fit in a shoebox, but not enough to fill another, (this often happens in my family) send them into our classroom and we will put them all together to fill additional boxes.
Chapel Offerings (every Wednesday) – Our 2nd quarter offering will be going toward our Christmas Families. Every year, Hope Lutheran School shows the love of Christ through the outpouring of food and clothing to those less fortunate during the Christmas season in our community. Our offering will help provide necessary things for the families we adopt during the Christmas season. L
2nd Quarter Book Reports – I am encouraging students to choose the book they would like to read for their book reports and submit their choice to me by Monday, November 10th. They may use a book from home, the library, or our classroom. (They may want to have several in mind in case their first choice has already been taken or it is not the correct reading level for them.) The genre is fiction.

Memory work for November 5:
The Ninth Commandment: You shall not covet your neighbor’s house.
What does this mean? We should fear and love God so that we do not scheme to get our neighbor’s inheritance or house, or get it in a way which only appears right, but help and be of service to him in keeping it.
