This week we have spent several days working on the periodic table and learning the facts that can be found about each element. We spent quite a bit of time learning the number of protons, neutrons, and electrons that each element contains. The students realized that once they understood the process of figuring this out, it isn’t as difficult as they thought. There was a lightbulb moment where they realized the patterns that each successive element follows and that understanding this pattern is really the key to reading the information on the periodic table. We will continue this chapter after spring break and we will have our next test, Thursday, March 21. Students should continue working on their science fair experiments. The next important due date is March 25 and students will be required to have their experiment finished and have their data (numbers) available so they can work on graphs and tables in their math classes.

This week we will be working on covalent bonding where electrons are shared between multiple atoms. We will learn how to show this using the electron dot model. We are also working on finishing our science fair projects. At this time, students may bring in their...
