Sixth graders should also wear their PE shorts, good running shoes, and a hat (optional). Bring sunscreen and a water bottle. Watch the weather– if it’s chilly, they might need hoodies. We will hold this event rain or shine, but we’d cancel if there is lightning in the area.
Celebrating America event research and projects:
Sixth graders are required to write a full two-page research paper with title page, outline, and Works Cited page. They have begun researching an assigned state with printed materials and are taking notes on notecards. The minimum requirement for sources is two print and one internet source. Internet sources must be credible (.gov or .edu) with no AI used.
Each student is required to make a topographical (or relief) map of the state being researched. Students should Google the name of their state and the words “topographic map” or “relief map.” They will find a colorful example to help them understand what theirs should look like.
Here are websites that explain how to make the dough and the map:

Parents, your help will be needed for revising and proofreading the report and in making the relief map. Please schedule time with your child to assist with these things. Completed projects may be turned in before the due date.
Due Dates:
Thursday, April 2: 25 notecards completed/ Begin first draft
Friday, April 10: First draft due
April 17: Final draft due
April 24: relief map due
