Week at a Glance
In Math, we are continuing to work through our unit on place value to 1,000. In Science, we starting a unit on Earth and its materials. In Social Studies, we are talking about goods and services. In Reading, we are reading about the Garden of Happiness to review the realistic fiction genre. In Religion, we are talking about Jonah.

Quarter 3 Reading Log
During quarter 3 and quarter 4, students will be competing in the Reading Olympics. Next week they will be assigned teams to work with through the remainder of the year. Every minute they read counts as points toward their team. There is no set number of minutes for them to read this quarter, but I still encourage around 100 each week. A reading log will still be sent home every Monday and will be graded for completion upon return. As we go throughout the semester, students will have the opportunity to complete mini book reports or other assignments to earn gold, silver, or bronze medals for their teams. I love the competition and excitement for reading that this brings into the classroom and I am looking forward to doing it with this class! Their current standings are below, be sure to ask your child what team they are on!

Reading Olympic standings:
1. The Book Club – 443 points (minutes read)
2. The Pokemon Trainers – 305 points
3. The Huskies – 275 points
4. The Dogs – 268 points
5. Penguin Kitten Squad – 149 points

Field Trip!
Thank you for signing and returning your permission slips. We are headed to the Coterie Theatre on Friday, January 31st. We are going to see a play based on the book “Just Ask.” It is a great story about how all kids are made unique and at school we will be talking about how God makes us all special in our own ways. I have included the link for the read-a-loud below if you are interested in the story!
