Policies & Procedures

Classroom Policies

Homework

In second grade, the homework that will be assigned at the beginning of the year will only be the work that was not finished in class. There will be work time at the end of each day for students to catch up on something they did not finish in class. If it is still incomplete, then it will go home and must be returned the next day. During second semester, there will be smaller assignments that will be sent home to prepare your child for third grade.

Extra Credit

Each week there will be challenge words on the spelling list. These challenge words will be an opportunity for students to earn extra credit. There will be an opportunity for extra credit in reading, math, social, studies, and science as the teacher sees fit.

Redo / Corrections

Redo’s and corrections will be done in class. If a student gets less than a 75% on a test, they will have the opportunity to make corrections for half credit back.

School Policies

Make Up Work

Students absent one week or less are allowed two days for every day absent to complete missed work (for example, if absent for 3 days, all work should be completed in the 6 school days following the return of the student). For absences longer than one week, the time allowed will be one week plus the number of days absent. Students are expected to fulfill long-term assignments as originally scheduled. Planned absence work will be expected to be turned in when returning to school. If planned absence work not completed it will result in a 10% penalty.

  • The temperature is 15 degrees F. (-13 C) or below. The wind chill index is 0 (-18 C) or below. There is significant falling moisture.
  • Teachers may take their classes out briefly for fresh air at their discretion.
  • Students must have a jacket/coat to go out to recess if the temperature is 50 degrees or below.
