Welcome to Second Grade!
About Miss E.
This is my third year of teaching here at Hope Lutheran. This year I also have the responsibility of taking on the role of Athletic Director. I was born and raised in Lincoln, Nebraska with two younger sisters. My parents still live in Nebraska and it is one of my favorite places to visit. I grew up in a family of educators, so I always knew I wanted to be a teacher. I attended Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska where I graduated with a degree in Elementary Education, an endorsement in Early Childhood Education, and my Lutheran Teaching Diploma. Upon graduation, I accepted a call to teach here at Hope Lutheran. Two of my aunts attended Hope back when the school was first starting, so I felt called by the Holy Spirit to pursue this ministry opportunity. I am excited to bring the light of Christ into my classroom so that my students are prepared to “Endure” this life in Christ.
Week at a Glance
Each week I will give you a little insight of what we are doing in the classroom. Next week our focus will still be on classroom rules/procedures and relationship building. I want to make a smooth transition into our learning and starting the year this way will help us do so. Spelling and Memory will start next week and you will be able to access those on my website. I will also include the links right below this paragraph each week. All of the memory verses will be in the English Standard Version. The first memory and spelling tests will be on Friday, August 23rd. Each Monday I will also send home a paper copy. Our first unit of Math will be reviewing Place Value. In Science and Social Studies we are exploring our textbooks and talking about what we will be learning for the whole year. In Reading, we are learning about realistic fiction and what it takes to be a good writer. In Religion, we start from the beginning with the creation of the world. You will still be able to follow our lessons on RenWeb and that is something I will review on Back to School Night. The Second Grade Back to School Night is Monday, August 26th from 6:30-8:00pm. That is where I will go into more detail about my classroom policy and procedures.

Reading Logs:
On Monday I will send your child home with a reading log. My first quarter expectation is that they are reading 75 minutes per week. This turns out to be 15 minutes, 5 nights a week. In class, we have talked about how to pick out a book that is a good fit for them. Something that is interesting, but something that also matches their reading level. Please encourage your child to spend time reading or even take the time to sit and read with them! These reading logs will be a grade each week, so please keep track of them and send them back to school the following Monday. The first one is due back on 8/26.
Other Notes
- Make sure to practice spelling and memory throughout the week. We spend a lot of time reviewing in class, but every minute at home counts too!
- We are a nut-free classroom, so please avoid sending snacks with any kinds of nuts. Thank you!
