Newsletter For April 20th – 24th

April 15, 2026

Thank you to all who supported our Jog-A-Thon! Thank you for returning your signed field trip permission slip for Day at the K! We need a few more pemission slips, which are due by Thursday, April 23rd. We have plenty of drivers! I will be able to email your adult ticket to those of you who are driving/chaperoning for the day. The office will charge your account the cost of $16. The student tickets were purchased through the activity fees. We have completed our KAP test, and we will start the MAP tests at the end of April (April 28th, May 4th-6th). We are focused on our Celebrating America Fair Night, which is coming up on Tuesday, April 28th! Please read more below! Our 4th & 5th graders will be cleaning up and beautifying the pollinator gardens for our bees and butterflies here at school on Friday, April 24th. We are so grateful and excited to work with our friends in the Shawnee Chamber of Commerce who have volunteered to spend the afternoon helping us! God has blessed us in this community! Happy Earth Day on April 22nd!

Get Ready for Our “Celebrate America – 250 Years” History Fair Event!
Our students have been working hard on their projects and presentations, and we can’t wait for you to see their creativity and dedication come to life on Thursday, April 30th.  Be sure to put it on your calendar, and invite family and friends!
We are working on featuring “All Things Kansas” in our fourth grade classroom. We are writing reports and creating small artifacts or projects to display that night. We plan to dress as cowboys and cowgirls. We are asking that parents help us to wear blue jeans, a white button up, collared shirt, and (if possible) some cowboy boots. The students will be provided with matching cowboy hats and red or blue bandanas. Please contact the teacher if you would be willing to help serve food samples the night of the fair. We would be sure to arrange short shifts so that parents would also have time to tour the fair with their families,
Here’s what to expect:
5:15 PM – Students should arrive and check in with their teachers in their classrooms.

5:30 PM – The American Float Parade will begin in the Family Life Center, featuring student presentations.

After the parade, families are invited to tour classrooms to view projects and sample food from around the USA.

Memorizing States and Capitals
We sent flash cards home before Spring Break to be used to begin preparing for a final test of the 50 states and capitals. Please help your child continue to practice the Northeast and Southeast states and continue learning the others until all 50 are mastered! We will expect the flash cards to be cared for and placed back neatly in the boxes and ziplock bag provided. Please be sure the boxes and cards are not torn or bent. Please be sure they are stored in the box and bag when not in use. Students will be responsible for returning the cards they “checked out” on or before the end of the school year.
