Newsletter For September 2nd-5th

August 27, 2025

It was great to see so many of you at our Back-to-School Night! Thank you for coming to gain insight and be informed about activities, policies, and events for this new school year. The 4th graders have been enjoying learning about Bees in Reading and Science classes. We were excited to watch Mr. Hockman, the beekeeper, pull the supers from the hive so we could see the honeycomb that he harvested to spin honey! We were amazed at how calm the bees were when he used the smoker and simply brushed them gently off of the trays of honey! We plan to watch him treat the hive for varroa mites this week as well! The fourth graders were excited to see one of the monarch butterflies emerge and expect to see several more in the next few days! What a joy to watch the beauty of nature up close!

Special Reading/Writing Project

The 4th graders have been assigned their special autobiography poster called “Extra, Extra, Read All About Me.” The poster will serve as a book report/project and is due on Friday, September 12th. Please help your child to plan it out and be neat, accurate, and complete. The scoring guide is included in the Assignment Organizer. Your child must be the only one to write on or draw on the poster using pencil and colored pencil. Each child is allowed only one copy of the poster.

Sept. 23 – Field Trip to Ernie Miller and Wildwood Outdoor Education

The 4th graders will be attending their first field trip of the year on Tuesday, September 23rd to participate in a 1700’s Heritage History Lab experience and meet a French-Canadian fur trapper, an Osage Indian, and a pioneer from the 1800’s. Students will need to dress for the weather. (Permission / Driver form due: Sept. 4)

Student Council Campaign and Election

Students in grade 4 are eligible to run for our class representative or the Student Council Artist/Publicity. Students that are interested may pick up a form with campaign guidelines from their teacher. Once elected, STUCO members will meet on the first Friday of each month at 7:30 AM.

Spelling Begins-

We have taken our first Spelling List Pretest and Dictation Test! On Friday we will have a Retake Test for any child who scored below 88% on the Wednesday Test. The student’s highest test score will be recorded in the gradebook for the week’s list words. Please look for the tests to come home in the Thursday Folder and review the words if your child will be taking the Retake Test on Friday. Any fourth grader may choose to take the Friday test to raise their weekly test score.

MAP Testing

We are starting our MAP Testing this week. Please be sure your child comes to school with a good breakfast and a good night’s sleep to be ready for school everday, but especially on test days.

4th grade will be taking our fall MAP tests on the following days.

BAND

We will have started attending 4th grade band, which is every Tuesday and Thursday morning. Please look for important information coming from our band director, Miss Rachel Beumer. Please email her with any questions or concerns you may have concerning band. What a joy to add instrumental music to our schedule this year!

How Best to Keep Informed-

Each Thursday morning you will be receiving an email called “3-6 SCOOP,” which contains links to each of the 3rd, 4th, 5th, & 6th grade classroom website. The classroom link will contain the class newsletter, Memory, and Spelling. This email will come from either Mrs.Krzesinski, Mrs. Begley, Mrs. McIntosh, or Mrs. Schkade.
