Thank you for bringing your children to sing in church this past Sunday! Their voices glorified God and added so much joy to the service! We are excited for the auction coming up this weekend and for next week’s Veteran’s Day celebration! The class has been busy writing notes on postcards for the soldiers and making decorations to honor our Vet’s. We thank God for the sacrifice our military and their families make to protect us and preserve our rights and freedom! God bless America!
Homework / Spelling & Memory
Please check your child’s assignment book each night and look in his/her binder to see that work is being done and turned in on time. Please continue to go over Spelling List words and Memory assignments to be sure your child is ready for the assessments. In January we will begin expecting Memory recitations each Tuesday and Thursday. Students who have learned to begin working on these two subjects before the new week will have the study skills needed for the 2nd Semester.
Water Bottles
Please no longer send your child to school with Stanley Cups or any water bottles/cups that do not have a twist-on lid and straw that is press-down & leak proof. This has become a safety concern because frequent spills and leaks are “invisible” but very dangerous on our shiny tile floors. Please also note that water bottles that are larger than 12 oz. do not fit in our desk water bottle holders and are large enough for our needs. Thank you for your help and cooperation!
Spelling Bee
We have determined our 4th grade Spelling Bee winners: 1st Place: Killian, 2nd Place: Hyunjung, and Alternate: Harper. The school-wide Spelling Bee will be held on Wednesday, November 19th.
Reading
In the next weeks we will be finishing our novel study for “My Side of the Mountain” by Jean Craighead George. We will be taking our 3rd Vocabulary Test on Friday, November 14th. The students have been making Vocabulary Flash Cards each week to help them prepare for the Vocabulary Tests. There will be a Final Test, which will include Vocabulary words from each of the three lists the students have studied. We have been answering story questions as we read and are typing them into a journal in our 4th grade Google Classroom. Each student will be making a Final Project, which is due on Wednesday, November 19th. Final Project information is being posted in the Google Classroom and was emailed to parents this week. Each student will inform the teacher of his/her project idea/plan by Tuesday, November 11th. Please let me know if I can help in any way! Thank you for your help and support!
Book-It
Your child’s October Book-It Calendar is due by Friday, November 8th. Our new calendar for November was sent home in last week’s Thursday Folder. Please store it in a safe place at home or in your child’s binder. Please help keep track of the minutes of reading your child does each day of the month. Record the minutes on the calendar, and return it to the teacher with your signature and your child’s signature. Your child will need to complete 600 minutes of reading outside of school hours to receive the Pizza Hut Personal Pan Pizza. Please support your child in taking on this project and completing it. Thank you!
Operation Christmas Child
Operation Christmas Child – Hope is again collecting Operation Christmas Child boxes this year. We are asking each family to take a shoebox home to fill for a child overseas to help him/her celebrate Christmas and hear the message of Jesus’ love at Christmas. The shoeboxes are stacked up in front of the office waiting to be filled! We will bring them to chapel on November 12th to pray for the children who will receive them. This is a great opportunity for us to share the Good News of Christ with others! So I am challenging our classroom to fill 10 boxes. If we make or surpass our goal, the class will earn a game/activity time in the classroom. If you have more items than you can fit in a shoebox, but not enough to fill another, send them into our classroom and we will put them all together to fill additional boxes.
