Happy Thanksgiving! I pray that you enjoy the last week of November and are counting the many blessings God has bestowed on you and your family! I count you and your family as some of my many blessings! We are beginning to learn songs and recitations for Christmas. Our 3rd – 8th grade Christmas Program will be on Thursday, December 18th at 6:00 PM in the Family Life Center. Please put the date on your calendar, and invite your family and friends to attend! Please plan to send your child dressed in a black bottom and white top for the night of the performance. We will be creating a special Christmas gift for our parents as soon we are back from our Thanksgiving Bread. Please send a medium sized shoebox to school by December 1st to help us store our special project for safe-keeping and for wrapping! Thank you!
Spelling Bee
Good job, Killian and Hyunjung for doing your best in the Spelling Bee! The school winner for K- 3rd was William, and the winner for 4th – 8th was Aaron!! To God be the glory!
Please help support Stony Point – 8th Grade Service Project
Our 8th grade class is sponsoring special needs students at Stony Point North Elementary School. They will be purchasing supplies, clothing items, and Christmas gifts that are needed to support these children and show them the love of Jesus and His people. Please consider donating money to help purchase these items for these precious children! Any donations could be dropped off at the office. The deadline for these donations is December 5th. Thank you!
Homework / Spelling & Memory
Thank you for checking and signing your child’s assignment book each night and looking in his/her binder to see that work is being done and turned in on time. Please continue to go over Spelling List words and Memory assignments to be sure your child is ready for the weekly assessments. Beginning with our Christmas Program recitations and songs, we are expecting Memory recitations each Tuesday and Thursday as a new pattern through the rest of the school year. Please help your child prepare the recitations and songs for the Christmas program, which will be on Thursday, December 18th at 6:00 pm in the Family Life Center. Be sure to put this date on your calendars!
Reading
We are finished reading the novel “My Side of the Mountain“ and are ready to share each of the Final Projects that our classmates have created! The projects look great, and the kids are very proud of them! Thank you! This Friday we plan to play a Jeopardy game, which covers some of the characters and events in the novel. We will play this game rather than taking a final test over the novel and vocabulary. In December we will be reading “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” by Barbara Robinson. We will be complete a workbook as we read and will be taking a Vocabulary Test at the conclusion of the novel. There will be no project assigned for this novel.
Book-It
The Book-It calendar for November will need to be completed and signed by both the parent and student by Friday, December 5th. We are sending the December calendar in the Thursday Folder. Please store it in a safe place at home or in your child’s binder. Please help keep track of the minutes of reading your child does each day of the month. Your child will need to complete 600 minutes of reading outside of school hours to receive the Pizza Hut Personal Pan Pizza. Please support your child in taking on this project and completing it. Thank you!
Classroom Gift Exchange
For our class Christmas party on Dec. 19, we will gift each other a book to read. The kids will fill out a survey listing their favorite topics or books. After students draw a classmate’s name for the exchange, this list will be sent home to help with book shopping. (Cost for the gift should not exceed $10.00) It’s more fun if we can keep names a secret until gifts are opened, so the name your child drew and the book information will be in a sealed envelope in the Thursday folder today. Wrapped books should be brought to school the week of Dec. 8-12. Please get in touch with me if you have concerns or if this is a hardship for you. Thank you!
