Newsletter For December 8-12

December 3, 2025

We have been keeping warm in 4th grade and have also been feeling a bit cooped as we have been having inside recesses this week due to the weather! Please be sure to send your child with plenty of layers, coats, hats, and gloves because we will be playing outside as soon as the ice is cleared away. Thank you to those who have been practicing Christmas recitations with your students! Our 3rd – 8th grade Christmas Program will be on Thursday, December 18th at 6:00 PM in the Family Life Center. Please put the date on your calendar, and invite your family and friends to attend! Please plan to send your child dressed in a black bottom and white top for the night of the performance. We are creating a special Christmas gift for our parents Please send a medium sized shoebox to school ASAP to help us store our special project for safe-keeping and for wrapping! If you can save clean toilet paper tubes and send them in to school, I will be collecting them for our project and to replace my current supply. Thank you!

ALL STUDENTS ARE SINGING ON SUNDAY, DECEMBER 7TH in the Hope Lutheran Church sanctuary. Here is the Sunday Worship schedule:

-8 am A Band and 6-8 Grade Choir – meet your teacher in the Luther Room at 7:45 am.

10:30 am – 4th-5th Grade Band, 3-5 Grade Choir, and Kinder – 2nd Grade Choir – meet your teacher in the Luther Room at 10:15 am.

If you are not able to attend, your parents should email Mrs. Schkade (schkade@hopelutheran.org) for 3rd – 8th grade choir and Mrs. Heiss for Kinder – 2nd grade choir (heiss@hopelutheran.org).
Hope Lutheran Church is a great support to our school, and this Sunday, we give thanks for that support. We would like to see as many students attend church as possible.

Kids’ Kastle Holiday Shop
Our school is hosting a Kids’ Kastle Holiday Shop. On Wednesday, December 10th from 10:30 – 11:00 AM the 4th graders will be shopping for inexpensive gifts for family and friends. A flyer will be sent home in the Thursday Folder today.

Classroom Christmas Party & Gift Exchange
Our 4th grade Christmas Party will be held on Friday, December 19th from about 10:15 – 11:15. Parents are always welcome to attend! The party will be followed by clean-up and Early Dismissal at 11:30 am.
In 4th grade, we will gift each other a book to read. The kids have filled out a survey listing their favorite topics or books. Each student has been given a classmate’s name for the exchange, this list was sent home in a separate envelope in the Thursday Folder before our Thanksgiving Break. Please use the list to help with purchasing a book for the child your student has been given. Please keep your child’s name anonymous because we do not want to reveal the gift-giver’s name until the gift is opened. You will need to write the name of the child who is to receive the gift on the wrapped book(s). You will want to write a note and place it in the book(s) to indicate who each book is from and who each is for. The cost for the gift should not exceed $10.00. Half Price Books is a great place to look! Wrapped books should be brought to school the week of Dec. 8-12. Please get in touch with me if you have concerns or if this is a hardship for you.  Thank you!

Parent/Teacher Conferences: January 15 & 16 – Mandatory
Look for a Signup Genius link to be coming soon in your email for setting your appointment time for our January Parent / Teacher Conference. There will be an Early Dismissal Day on Thursday, January 15th and No School on Friday, January 16th due to our conference scheduling.

Homework / Spelling & Memory
Thank you for checking and signing your child’s assignment book each night and looking in his/her binder to see that work is being done and turned in on time. Please continue to go over Spelling List words and Memory assignments to be sure your child is ready for the weekly assessments. Beginning with our Christmas Program recitations and songs, we are expecting Memory recitations each Tuesday and Thursday as a new pattern through the rest of the school year. Please help your child prepare the recitations and songs for the Christmas program, which will be on Thursday, December 18th at 6:00 pm in the Family Life Center. Be sure to put this date on your calendars!

Reading
We are enjoying our new novel “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” by Barbara Robinson. We are completing a workbook as we read in class. We will be taking a Vocabulary Test at the conclusion of the novel. The Vocabulary list of 14 words and definitions came home before Thanksgiving. We have already made Vocabulary Flash Cards so students can be going over the words and meanings. We will be taking a Vocabulary Test over the list on Monday, December 15th. Please study the words and meanings with your child. Thank you!

Book-It
The Book-It calendar for November will need to be completed and signed by both the parent and student by Friday, December 5th. We have sent the December calendar in the Thursday Folder. Please store it in a safe place at home or in your child’s binder. Please help keep track of the minutes of reading your child does each day of the month. Your child will need to complete 600 minutes of reading outside of school hours to receive the Pizza Hut Personal Pan Pizza. Please support your child in taking on this project and completing it. Thank you!
