We enjoyed our Step Up Day and were also glad that we have some time to finish preparing for the next step! We praise God for all of the dedicated teachers and staff here at Hope who are helping us take these big steps to grow strong in body, mind, and spirit! During the month of February, every student and teacher in grades K-8 is daily recording things they are grateful for. We want to start each day on a positive note, giving thanks to God for all His blessings in each moment of our lives. This brings us JOY and honors our God.
Thank you for working with your child on memorizing the 1st and 2nd Articles and Meanings, the Multiplication Tables, and now States & Capitals! Congratulations go to our 4th grade geography bee winners: 1st – Lucy Thrasher, 2nd – Killian Miller, and Alternate – Rosalie Heimsoth, who will compete in the Hope Geography Bee on February 25th. We have an opportunity to help serve others during Lent. We are asking for some more volunteers to help our third grade friends. There will also be a meal served in Concord Hall for following each 4:00 service. The signup is down below. See you at Open House tonight from 5:30 – 6:30 PM! Please bring your child to see their next year’s classroom and take a peek at what your child will be learning in the coming year!
Important Music Upcoming Music Events
On Feb. 22, Grades 3-5 choir will sing at Hope’s 10:30 service. On March 8, all K-8 students will be singing and/or playing in band at Hope’s church services to kick off National Lutheran Schools Week. It is very important that as many students as possible attend these performances, because we work hard in band and choir to make our voices and instruments blend and balance. If you have a family or church conflict that prevents your child from attending, please email Mrs. Schkade and your child’s homeroom teacher.
Memorizing States and Capitals
We have pushed ourt deadline back a bit. Please be sure your child knows the New England states by Monday, February 23rd. Please work on learning the Mid Atlantic states for the following Monday. Thank you!
Memorizing Multiplication Tables
This upcoming week we have students who will be testing on the 10’s, 11’s, and 12’s tables of Multiplication. These are one-minute tests. Each test contains 12 questions covering one table of multiplication. We test on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays to cover about two tables per week. Students retake each timed test until achieving 100% and passing on to the next table. We will usually use Fridays to increase speed and accuracy for anyone needing to retake a table. Students are working at their own pace and not in competition with classmates. Each student will build an actual ice cream sundae to match the poster he/she has built by earning each piece after scoring 100%. Some students are not fully prepared for testing. Students may be running out of time and may not be able to meet the deadline for the Ice Cream Challenge, which is Friday, March 6th. Even after the Ice Cream Challenge is complete, students will be required to continue the testing until each table has been mastered with a score of 100%. These math facts are essential to going on to 5th grade math instruction. Thank you for helping your child meet this challenge and feel successful and prepared!
Lenten Service – Student Help wanted
4th grade has been asked to help the 3rd grade with handing out service folders and ushering for the 4:00 Wednesday Lenten Services beginning on February 25th. We will be serving for the following services: February 25th, March 4th, March 11th, March 25th. This is an opportunity for the students to be involved in a way that they enjoy and can be of service to the congregation that supports our school in so many ways. Student helpers can stay with me after school and Mrs. Krzesinski and Mrs. Begley will accompany them to the sanctuary and stay with them until after the service. Please use the link below to indicate which service(s) your child could be available to serve. It is not expected that your child serves every week, but please indicate any/all weeks that it would be possible. (Only 4 are needed each week, but there is room for 2 extra in each slot for signing up.) Thank you in advance for your willingness to serve!
