At Hope Lutheran School, the 8th-grade students found a unique way to combine STEM, service, and community impact. As part of their Bee STEM Project, the class sold honey from their school’s outdoor hive and faced an important decision: where to donate half of their proceeds. Their choice was Bradon’s Hope, a local charity dedicated to supporting children battling cancer. For one student, Adrienne, this was especially meaningful—she was diagnosed with leukemia at just five years old and experienced firsthand the support Bradon’s Hope provides.

But the students didn’t stop at a donation. Inspired to do more, they joined forces with Jersey Mike’s Day of Giving, an annual event where every dollar in sales from local Jersey Mike’s locations supports a nonprofit. The 8th graders designed flyers, collected orders, created a promotional video (Watch Video), and organized Hope’s school-wide sandwich fundraiser to boost the cause. Thanks to their efforts and the generosity of donors covering meal costs for those in need, every Hope student had the chance to participate.

The result? A total impact of $1,546 given to Bradon’s Hope and a powerful lesson in leadership, generosity, and teamwork. What began as a class STEM project grew into a community-wide effort, proving that even small acts—like selling honey or buying a sandwich—can make a meaningful impact.
