  • National Lutheran Schools Week
  • Celebrate the Arts
  • Fine Arts Night

Band

Band is available for students in 4th through 8th grade.  Band is offered both to students who have received previous instruction or who are ready to learn an instrument for the first time.  Additional activity fees apply for participating students.

Choir

Choir is available for students in Kindergarten through 8th grade.  We start with simple melodies and progress into two and four part harmonies.  Oftentimes we have student pianists accompany the choir.

Recorders

Our 3rd and 4th grade students learn to play the recorders and challenge themselves with the Recorder Karate method books.  The repertoire builds gradually from songs with with belt songs using G A B through the black belt songs with D E F# G A B C D.  As students progress throughout the year they earn belts to hang from their recorders.

Chimes

Our 5th and 6th grade students continue their musical education in the hand chime choir.  In the chime choir students learn how to properly play hand chimes, read music, and work as an ensemble to produce beautiful music.

Music Theory

Starting in Kindergarten our students spend 30 minutes each week studying music theory.  They learn about notes, key signatures, time signatures, and rhythmic notation as well as being exposed to different types and periods of music.

VISUAL ARTS

The Visual Arts Program at Hope Lutheran School supports the National Standards for Visual Arts and the Kansas State Standards for Visual Arts. Students in grades 1-8 participate in weekly formal art instruction. They will experience drawing, painting, sculpture, graphic design, collage, pottery and other art forms using high quality tools and materials including “green” media. Creativity and effort are stressed.

The student learns about media, background, history, and processes, how to work independently and with others and how to respect others’ ideas and self evaluate. Each is taught to perceive, interpret, and respond to ideas, experiences, and the environment through visual art. Some highlights include:

  • Cardboard box animal sculptures
  • Woven wire figures
  • Acrylic painting on canvas
  • Imaginary 3D drawing
  • Design font for Bible verse poster with illustration
  • Watercolor still life
  • Clay sculpture and hand built pots (extruder & slab roller)
  • Cartooning and caricatures

Drama

Each spring the middle school students can participate in the Spring Play as actors, stage hands, or both.  Students learn the basics of theater production while enjoying Christian fun and fellowship.  Additional activites fees apply for participating students.
